These days, it can be hard to tell hype from truth when it comes to sustainable business practices. Plydea’s environmental position is that we cause no unnecessary harm in pursuit of our business. We are adamant about providing empirical data and demonstrable practices to prove our strong environmental stance. There are three main areas in which Plydea applies firm sustainable policies: Plydea Sustainable: Materials Plydea Sustainable: Practices Plydea Sustainable: Design
Plydea Sustainable: Materials Currently, all Plydea products are made from high-grade solid Baltic birch plywood. This engineered material is light, strong and perfectly suited for the kinds of things we make for people to use. Our Materials Policy is:
Plydea Sustainable: Practices We’re a small outfit but we put big expectations on ourselves to follow some basic best practices that limit our impact:
Plydea Sustainable: Design Not to be overlooked as a significant component of our sustainability mission is our design approach. Each Plydea product is designed with the aim of using the thinnest material possible with the least waste possible. We can achieve incredible material savings by our inventive use of selective tensioning in our products, which converts that tension into stronger, lighter products. We also aim to use no or few fasteners, and require no tools for assembly. Because our basic idea is also to ship our products to you packed flat, this not only saves you shipping cost, it reduces the carbon required for transport. For more on our design philosophy, see the “about plydea” menu.
